History

The Melissa Fire Department has proudly served the City of Melissa for decades, evolving alongside one of the fastest-growing communities in North Texas. As Melissa has experienced remarkable growth over the past decade, the department has continually adapted its staffing and services to meet the needs of a rapidly expanding community.

From its beginnings as a volunteer fire service, to a combination department, and now as a fully staffed professional fire department, Melissa has built a proud tradition of dedication, professionalism, and community service. In 2020, that tradition reached another milestone with the formation of the Melissa Professional Firefighters Association, IAFF Local 5250, creating a stronger voice for our firefighters while expanding our commitment to those we serve.

Today, Local 5250 proudly supports a variety of community initiatives, including our annual Police vs. Fire Department Grudge Match Softball Game. We are especially proud to invest in the future through our Service Scholarship Program, benefiting students through the Melissa Education Foundation.

As our city continues to grow, so does our commitment to serving it. We are grateful for the trust and support of the Melissa community and look forward to continuing our mission for many years to come.
